2006  Photos & Stories

We have a funny story to share! Our three year old son is very smart…and one night before dinner I asked Gideon to say Grace before we ate to thank the Lord for our dinner. He simply stated that he wanted our Sasha (chernoyl child) to say the prayer and then he would close in his prayer. So we agreed, she asked him, “Do you want me to pray like you or in Russian?” She asked this because we do allow her to pray in her spoken language because we explained to her that God understands all languages that were ever created….so she thanked God for the meal, said Amen and it was Gideon’s turn to pray. It was quite quiet for a while because you could tell he was thinking about something, so I said, “Gideon it is your turn to pray, will you please finish so we can start eating?” He answered “sure,” and prayed a little prayer with words none of us could understand, and said Amen and grabbed his fork, ready to eat. We looked at each other across the table and said, “Gideon none of us understood what you said, did you just pray?” And he simply answered, “you said God understands all of us when we talk, so He understood me too Mommy, I just wanted to talk like Sasha!” We all started laughing! And it was a good way to start the dinner conversations

One more… Sasha was trying to teach Gideon to say “I LOVE YOU” in Russian but every time he would say it, it came out like this… “Ya TV-off Leblue” She laughed so hard she had to run to the bathroom! Because it sounds like this… “Ya Tibia Leblue”

Gideon and Sahsa were quite a pair this past summer. My husband is deployed with the Army, so they were palls all summer long and He misses her already! We all do! She was our one constant for the summer amongst a summer of changes!

Thanks,

Jennifer Brake
