It only takes one visit with a host family to realize the impact we have on these children's lives and the impact they have on ours. Our fund in Belarus gives priority to children from contaminated areas who come from low-income families, large families, evacuees, invalid and disabled head of households. These are children who would have little opportunity for recuperation without the assistance of our Fund. Experience has shown that these visits are saving lives and changing them. These children pose no health risk to other children. What they need is wholesome food, fresh and clean air, and love. It has been our happy experience to facilitate many enjoyable relationships with families by keeping the ages of the Belarusian children and host children close. The children are in the U.S.A. for 6 to 8 weeks between late June and early August. The exact dates vary from year to year. The Fund pays for the children the first year with the host family providing airfare on return visits. The host family will need to provide clothing for the child for the summer. We have experienced families available for support and/or questions during their stay as well as an interpreter for any difficulties. We arrange several group events throughout the summer to enable the children to interact with other visiting children. The only required activity is the physical examination which will be scheduled for you soon after their arrival. An application is required and an in-home interview will be conducted.
